Artifact

This work is, in some ways, my personal journal. These are items, pieces of paper, pieces of my photographs, fabric, tea bag tags and other things that I come across, that for visual or personal reasons, I decide to save. The collage process has always been a part of my visual process. Even when I photograph, I see things as “pieces” of a visual “story”.  I decided to create an on-going series of these small collages, 9 inches by 9 inches in total, so that the collage itself becomes an object of memory and contemplation…a collection of “artifacts” recognized or found, that are then created into a new “object” to be contemplated. These visual documents are for me journal entries worth keeping. I create them as personal memory and visual records that remind me of the ephemeral. There are currently twenty finished collages of which twelve are shared here.
