That Which Remains
A contemplative journal of nostalgic places in Long Island. (2021-2023)
This series is part of an on-going documentary journal on local areas around Long Island that have preserved their character while existing in a contemporary society. The images are not meant to provide a historical document, but rather to invite contemplation and reflection on the ordinary. Photographs are often seen as “fleeting moments” engraved in some type of tactile history, but for me they are an invitation to examine and ponder the world and our own inner self, to encourage “the silence of a moment”. I am drawn to objects that reflect their human counterpart, things left behind after they have been an intimate part of someone’s daily life. I recently read something written by Father Mark Toups that inspired me a great deal:
“The profound is found in the ordinary….be attentive to how God pursues you, but be aware that God’s pursuit…will be found in the ordinary.”
These images are my attempt to find meaning in the ordinary.
Prints are 16"x16"; I-phone files printed on Epson Velvet Fine Art paper, with archival inks.
